It can happen to anyone driving in slow city traffic. A millisecond lapse in concentration. The car in front slams on its brakes. Driving an ordinary car, you’re most likely to run into the vehicle in front of you.

Powertrains and Performance

XC60 3.2 and 3.2 R-Design models are powered by a 3.2-liter inline-6 that generates 240 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. Volvo also offers a version of this engine that meets squeaky-clean PZEV emissions certification; it’s rated at 230 hp. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.

The all-wheel-drive T6 and T6 R-Design models receive a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine rated at 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. All XC60s feature a six-speed automatic with manual shift control. In testing, an XC60 equipped with last year’s less powerful T6 engine sprinted from zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds, which is a good number for this segment.

EPA fuel economy estimates are a solid 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined for the XC60 3.2 FWD, while the T6 model drops to a less-impressive 17/22/19.

Design

With Scandinavian simplicity, a gorgeous floating stack and accented leather, the XC60`s award-winning interior is full of beauty and surprises – including folding rear seats for additional storage.
Fold down the rear seat backrests and you´ve got almost 17 cubic feet of flat load storage. Perfect for hockey equipment, camping gear or simply bringing home groceries.

Safety

There´s nothing worse than being tired at the wheel or dropping something while driving. That´s why the XC60 has technology that can brake for you, stabilize your car or warn you if you are getting tired.

At 18 mph or less, City Safety detects a stopped or slower-moving car in front of you, and applies the brakes. Which is why the Volvo XC60 is known as “the car that stops itself.”
